Take a
daytrip or spend 1 to 4 nights relaxing and enjoying a true wilderness
experience in the "Valley of Baboons". Visit this rugged mountain reserve
of breathtaking scenery with its diverse plant and animal life. Discover
traces of the mysterious Koi-san people's existence or simply enjoy a
veldt lunch on the banks of the Kouga river.

Wilderness Day-trip
(2 Nights at the Lodge)
After breakfast; depart from the Baviaanskloof Lodge
at 09h00 and meet the endangered and inquisitive little Red Finned Minnows
of the Poortjies area with it’s dense pristine forest of Yellowwoods
watered by its numerous sparkling, crystal clear mountain streams. A rough
and winding climb up Combrinks mountain pass with
it’s ancient Cycads, Fynbos & panoramic views over the mountain kingdom.
Visit the ingenious le Roux cableway as well as a Bushman cave with it’s
ancient rock art before descending down the Holgat Mountain Pass heading
towards the upper reaches of the Kouga Dam and beyond.
Lunch in the wild on the banks of the Kouga river.
Listening to the cry of the Fish Eagle on patrol in its domain while
enjoying a swim in the cool tranquil waters of the Kouga River at Rooihoek
Mid afternoon, depart for a short game drive along
the river banks where Kudu, Bushbuck, Eland, Black Rhino the very elusive Cape
Buffalo congregate for their late afternoon drink. Head for home; back
over the majestic mountain passes and hopefully an encounter with the
Mountain Zebra & Red Hartebeest of the Bergplaas Plateau. This will
enhance a memorable experience of the majestic splendor of the
Baviaanskloof Wilderness area and World Heritage Site
Arrive at Baviaanskloof Lodge at approx. 18h00 to be
treated to a gourmet dinner of exquisite traditional home cooking .
The tour includes lunch and all non alcohol
beverages for the day.
